Chahrokh Elahi, MD
Chahrokh Elahi, who was born in Tehran in 1950, is the youngest son of Ostad Elahi. He graduated from medical school in Iran, later moving to France where he currently practices ophthalmology, both in private practice and in the public sector. Chahrokh Elahi is also a great master of the tanbur, carrying forward the rich musical repertoire that his father had developed for the instrument. Wanting to preserve the meditative character of this music, Chahrokh Elahi never played in public until when, at the request of Maurice Bejart, he played on the occasion of the choregrapher’s seventieth birthday in 1997. Bejart had been deeply moved by his musical encounter with Ostad Elahi 30 years earlier (please refer to www.Ostadelahi.com).
