Bernard Bourgeois, Phd

A former student at the École Normale Supérieure, and the recipient of a Doctorate in Philosophy, Bernard Bourgeois has been a long-time Professor at the University of Lyon, and since 1989 is a Professor Emeritus at the Sorbonne. He has focused his research on the study of German thought from Kant to Marx, with a particular emphasis on Hegel. A former President of the agrégation jury and former President of the French Society of Philosophers, he is since February 2003, a member of the French Institute, where he was elected to the Academy of Moral and Political Sciences in replacement of Olivier Lacombe. Since its inception in 2000, Bernard Bourgeois has sat on the board of The Ostad Elahi Foundation: Ethics and Human Solidarity. Among other works, he is the author of L’encyclopédie des sciences philosophiques de Hegel (2 volumes, Vrin), L’idéalisme de Fichte (Vrin), La pensée politique de Hegel (PUF), Eternité et historicité de l’esprit selon Hegel (Vrin), Philosophie et droits de l’homme (PUF), and L’idéalisme allemand (Vrin).
